Skylight provides a confidential service for crisis pregnancy and post abortion trauma for women and their partners. It is affiliated to the Association of Christian Counsellors.

Skylight Schools Workshops - This is a developing aspect of the ministry with our workshops being requested by a number of local schools. They can also be used with Church Youth/Cell Groups. More details can be found below.

Skylight Baby Basics - provision of quality baby equipment and toys on a loan basis. See separate ministries section.

The Skylight Centre Offers:

• Appointments at times to suit clients.
• Time to talk. Each client receives up to an hour's counselling time.
• Confidential and relaxed surroundings. The centre is located in a quiet area. Our counselling suite is comfortable & private. We do not require full names and addresses of clients.
• A free service. Pregnancy testing and counselling are provided free of charge. However we encourage donations towards the cost of this provision and according to the client's financial circumstances.
• An independent community project. Skylight seeks to work within the community but is financially independent from NHS and local doctors.
• Practical help. We are able to provide baby equipment & clothes

Finding out that you are pregnant or could be pregnant sometimes can be a shock.

At Skylight you will find someone who is trained to help you consider the options & give you complete information on which to base your decision.

Upset After An Abortion?

Few women really choose to undergo an abortion, but the pressure of circumstances can be overwhelming. Afterwards there is often a sense of relief.

Later, maybe months or even years after, feelings may emerge that can be puzzling or frightening. Post abortion trauma is a recognised condition & may include the following symptoms: depression, dreams about the abortion, feelings of guilt & remorse, a sense of emptiness & loss, relationship difficulties, anger/panic/helplessness, low self worth, emotional numbness.

Our trained & experienced counsellors will help you work through these issues.

Miscarriage Distress?

When you have had a miscarriage it can be difficult to talk about how you & your partner feel.

You may feel upset & depressed - You could be thinking - "Is it normal for me to feel this?" Everyone thinks you should have "got over it", but you know that you haven't.

If you feel you would like to talk to someone about your miscarriage then we are here to help you.

Schools Workshops

We are able to offer workshops on foetal development, abortion and Christian Perspectives on Abortion.

These have been well received.

We have made a conscious effort to work alongside other agencies in giving a more balanced view of abortion, unplanned pregnancy, S.T.I's and sexual health in order to inform and empower young people to make healthy life choices. This approach has been met with a positive response from teachers, health professionals and other agencies and has been very encouraging for Skylight.

We recognise that a large number of young people across our City and in our churches are still not able to access this workshop, and so we invite you to get involved.
