Evangelism

Coventry City Mission proclaims the gospel throughout its ministries, and also has a dedicated evangelism ministry. Our evangelism team currently concentrates on the Wood End, Henley Green and Manor Farm area of the city although we do take part in citywide events.

Door to DoorWappenbury Road

Some of our contacts come from door to door work. In the past the local community has been saturated several times with the Jesus video. Today we seek to reach out to people on their doorsteps in different ways. We take part in chocolate evangelism where we visit people's homes with chocolate as a gift, and a card that talks about Jesus free gift of forgiveness to us through his death on the cross. We also spend time knocking on doors with information about the Mission, this is not direct evangelism but gives us the opportunity to get know people and to invite them to our café or any events we re putting on.

Community VisitsNicky on a community visit

Each week we are able to visit families from the local community in their homes, these times provide valuable opportunities to share the gospel with people. We spend time chatting to people, listening to them, and praying for and with them. Our contact with the families comes from either door to door work, through our Christmas visiting, referral, or via word of mouth.

Cafe OutreachAllie chatting in the cafe

The Mission is known in the local community as 'The Church', and customers often feel that they can come and share with us in the safety . Through our cafe we are able to meet with many individuals and have been privileged to get to know them. Each Tuesday and Thursday we spend time in the cafe chatting to the customers and getting to know them. We have found that this is a valuable stepping stone to a deeper relationship and often the opportunity to visit people in their homes comes from getting to know them in the cafe. One lady recently had several bereavements in her family and told us "I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't been able to come here and talk to you, it's good to know you're praying for me and my family." We also have a prayer box in the cafe where people can share their needs confidentially.

Summer Fun DayPirates fun day

Each year CCM holds a summer fun day. Last year we chose the theme Pirates to link in with the release of Pirates of the Caribbean. We put on pirate related activities, including making pirate hats and eye patches, face painting, and a fancy dress competition. We were also able to invite Birmingham City Mission s activity bus to put on activities with teenagers and young people.

This year our fun day will be on 28th June, and will have the theme of Narnia to coincide with the release of the Prince Caspian film.

Children's ActivitiesEaster Gardens

Each school holiday we put on events with the children whose parents come to use our café and shop. We always try to link the activities to a Christian theme, or Bible story. This Easter Helen was very encouraged, as the children she was working in had remembered the Easter story from last year, and were able to talk about Jesus death and resurrection.

Christmas Giving TreeChristmas Giving Tree

Through our outreach we have found many families who struggle financially over the Christmas period. Each year we provide toys for families who would otherwise be able to provide very little for their children. These gifts always come with an evangelistic leaflet, and give us the opportunity to get to know families that we would normally not have contact with.

Here are some of the other events we are involved in:

Spark in the ParkSpark in the Park

Is a new outreach for Coventry in 2008 where number of churches will join together with put on a week of fun for children, young people and their families. Activities will include inflatable, football, craft activities, face painting, quizzes, and a time where the families will be able to hear the gospel. There will be a five a side football competition for teenagers.

This free event will take place in the Memorial Park from 28th July 2008 to 1st August 2008 at 1.30 pm. Come along and join in!

Christ In The PrecinctChrist in the Precinct

Each Easter Churches in Coventry work together in evangelism to people in the city centre. This year Christians shared the message of Hope with people in Coventry city centre. People were offered the opportunity to pray at a prayer station, listen to a gospel choir, watch episodes of the BBC's Passion, and have their shoes cleaned. Face painting was available for children, and the team were able to give out Easter eggs. On Good Friday there was a walk of witness through the city centre.
