Testimony from CrosslineBy John Pither - Added 22nd of May 2008A few months ago a man rang Crossline and spoke with someone in Hull. He was really low and suicidal. The next day the co-ordinator of Hull Crossline contacted us at Crossline Coventry as having read the report they were concerned about this caller. The listener in Hull had all the relevant contact details including their phone number. As manager of the line here in Coventry, I decided to ring this man direct to check that he was still ok. After talking to him at length for over half and hore my concern for his welfare was increased further. he had a large number of pills and was proposing to take them later that evening. It also emerged that the previous night he had tried to take his life, but his former partner had come round and found him and taken him to hospital. Unfortunately, he had been discharged again the next day. Using the internet I obtained the telephone number of the local police and contacted them. They sent an ambulance immediately and he was taken into hospital. In these situations one never knows if one will hear anymore. However the man has phoned us again on a number of occasions. He is much better in himself although his circumstances remian very difficult. His Christian faith is helpling him and indeed without it and a little help from us he would not now be alive. This is just one example of how Crossline helps people through listening to them.
