How Text Support Makes a Difference

By Helen Davis - Added 20th of May 2008

A teenage friend tells us their story.

As a teenager I had a lot of things I needed to talk about, but just the thought of sitting in a room telling someone how I was feeling was terrifying. I wanted to talk, but I couldn't put the words that were in my head into words that I could speak. I'd choke up, start shaking and look for any opportunity to run away if someone asked me how I was doing. Text messages became my lifeline, if I was  feeling really low I knew that I could send a message to someone who would take what I had to say seriously and really care about me. I know that I would never have been able to speak about the things that I was struggling with, but to be able to text someone mean't so much to me. I can honestly say that one of the main reasons that I made it through that difficult time of my life was because of the support I received by text message from people who really cared about me."
