City wide Prayer event

By Darren Burgess - Added 27th of May 2010

Prayer event

The Background

For some months now i have felt challenged to encourage the churches of Coventry to come together in prayer. I am sure we all pray for our own 'patch' and it's people, but how many of us pray for the wider city; for our brothers and sisters in Christ across the city or for opportunities to share our Faith with those we meet?

As a 'Coventry Kid' I am passionate about my city and it's people and believe Coventry has so much potential.

With this in mind I am trying to co-ordinate a special time when we could all come together to pray for our city. But rather than all come to one point to pray we all do so walking the streets of our area, parish or neighbourhood in the knowledge that across the city hundreds of like minded Christians are doing the same.

The Date

2010 gives us one of those unusual days where the date looks significant. on the 10th October we have 10/10/10 and it seemed a good date to choose to run this event. People talk about the power of three. three acts in a play, three films in a trilogy (the fourth film usually doesn't work!) the bginning, middle and end and as we all know any good sermon has three points! As Christians we have the ultimate power of three; God, Son and Holy Spirit and where better can we bring those together than in prayer.

The Challenge

We are trying to encourage people to take to the streets at some point between 9am and 12 noon on 10th October. Whether that is before, during or after church services; whether people go in small groups, pairs or all together is up to them; all we want is for as many people to take part at some point in those three hours. For those who are unable to walk the area, groups can pray in the church building, in cars around the area or from home. The important thing is that we may come together.

We, at CCM, are very happy to co-ordinate this project but need churches, groups and individuals to register interest in order that we can create some momentum. Our hope is that enough churches, irrespective of denomination or style come together as well as individuals to cover our city in prayer.

Our hope is to get over 1000 Christians on the streets of Coventry during this event. Will you join us?

The Response

At this early stage all we need is a show of interest, whether that be from individuals, groups or churches and then we can start working together on making this significant event happen. If you would liek to be involved or to know more as we move forward please email me (darren@covcitymission.org.uk) phone (02476 615931) or write (CCM, PO BOx 40 Coventry CV1 9DQ) with your details to register your interest and then we will be in touch.
