Crossline Coventry is part of the National Christian Helpline staffed by trained Christian volunteers who offer a listening ear to those who call. The National Christian Helpline is made up of 5 Christian Helplines working together to enable us to serve the wider community better than if we worked alone. The 5 helplines are Crossline Coventry, Crossline Hull, Premier Lifeline, Crossline Plymouth.
We anticipate that we shall answer about 90,000 calls a year between us on 0300 111 0101. This number is local rate for all landlines and mobiles and should be included in mobile contract minutes.
All our listeners are trained on a 20 hour Telephone Listening Course accredited by the Association of Christian Counsellors (AT19/Tel/List). This course is available to be run to groups across the country on request. The core teaching is also available on dvd enabling the contact time with learners to be reduced when only small numbers of individuals wish to train or when insufficient total numbers are available in a given area to make a full contact course viable.
Topics covered in the eight course modules: Listening Skills, Telephone Listening Skills 1 & 2, Telephone Boundaries, Crisis Listening, Call Handling 1, 2 & 3 including Loneliness, Mental Health and Relationships.

Crossline is also affiliated to the Association of Christian Counsellors and a member of the Helplines Partnership. Crossline Coventry was reawarded Quality Standard Accreditation with the mental health helplines partnership on 23rd February 2009. Crossline Hull & Crossline Scunthorpe & District were also awarded the standard.
Brief History of Crossline in Coventry: Crossline in Coventry has been operating since January 1992 as a project of Coventry City Mission. In the early years it operated from 5pm - 2.30am. This was amended to 6pm - 2.30am in 1993 and subsequently to 6pm - Midnight from 2004. A paid co-ordinator was appointed to the project in 1996 and since then call volumes have risen steadily to the current level. An Accredited Training Course was developed and implemented in 2001. Following our 10th Anniversary in 2002 a desire to enable Christian Helplines to network and work closer with each other has been fostered. This resulted in the formation of the Christian Helplines Association in 2004. In 2007 Crossline in Coventry changed to an 0845 number to enable the system and calls to be handled by and external management system that sent calls to available listeners. By 2009 all 4 Crossline’s were working together on this number. In 2013 we along with Premier Lifeline combined our resources and launched the National Christian Helpline.
